Further to our recent article of 30th June, 2007 "Strip Poker Editor
Gets Arrested", our in-house editor of Strip Poker Men's Club finally
leaves his state of captivity in one of Latin America's hottest tourist
spots; Costa Rica. Our editor was unable to leave Costa Rica after
arriving in the country on business some six months ago, his ex-wife
(separated) in conjunction with a court-ruling placed a "Prohibicion de
Salida" (Prohibition to Exit) the country.
This prohibition to exit was placed upon him without even notifying him of a court date for reputedly being the father of her 2 year old child. We use the term reputedly, because the mother of the child has refused to take a DNA test (apparently the mother's right when a couple are still married *), refused to present photos of the child, and factual evidence that the child was still present in the country despite requests from both the alleged father of the child and one of the presiding judges.
The dual-nationality citizen was stuck between a rock and a hard place; as both British and Australian embassies stated they were unable to assist him as he had obtained residency in Costa Rica some six months earlier. He continued, "all foreigners should be aware of the massive downside for applying for residency in a foreign country, once you do so, you are on your own, your embassy will not assist you in any way whatsoever, you are at that time at the mercy of that country, and, if that country doesn't follow the constitutional laws which may exist back home, your going to be in for one hell of a bad time".
Our editor's experience, had he been single, may have been less traumatic, however the father of three other children with his de-facto wife was separated from his family. His ex-wife (* whom he has been unable to divorce as she is trying to extort some USD$50,000 from him for the privilege of signing the papers) viciously attacked him by lying to the court and subsequently perjuring herself on multiple accounts in an attempt to falsely in-prison him. His ex-wife laid claims that the editor was a wealthy individual who had accrued millions of dollars from an alleged global web development company, that he owned several high-priced homes in Costa Rica, own luxury vehicles and lived a life of luxury as well as beat her on numerous occasions; all of which couldn't have been further from the truth for our poverty-stricken and somewhat passive, peace-loving employee. Each claim was quickly proven to be a lie, however the wheels of justice turn very slowly in Costa Rica, the legal system is inept, solicitors, totally incompetent and generally focus solely on extracting the most money from their clients with the least amount of work possible, producing a result is an afterthought at best.
He continued to say; "it was an extremely stressing time for both me and my family", it's totally unimaginable that this sort of thing can go on in a country that portrays itself to be democratic, in any other country perjury is taken very seriously, however she was able to repeatedly perjure herself without penalty; protected by the country's one-sided laws created solely to protect women under all circumstances, justice for men is just an afterthought".
Our editor's case is far from over; and expects it to take another 6-12 months to be finalized, he was only allowed to leave the country after paying a huge "security deposit" which was paid by a very close friend. He continued to say, "after my experience in Costa Rica which spanned over 3 years, I would warn everyone to use extreme caution in either purchasing property or holidaying in Costa Rica, there are countless horror stories you will encounter to speaking with other foreigners who decided for one reason or another to make Costa Rica their home".
Now that our editor is finally "free" you can now expect to see more of his funny, sarcastic and sometimes just plan vulgar humor in upcoming issues.

My heart goes out to you man, what an absolutely dreadful experience, a good example of a relationship gone bad and why all men should take precautions in protecting themselves and their assets should their relationship end up on the rocks. I have been to Costa Rica, it rated as an OK holiday, got ripped off whilst there and I must say I have heard lots of horror stories about that place. Good luck.
